It is said that at least 47 people died after a head-on collision between the two buses in Rusape.
The details were still sketchy on Wednesday evening, but the state broadcaster ZBC reported that the police confirmed that 47 people were killed at the scene.
Transport Minister Biggie Matiza said he is still waiting for official police communications.

Reports claimed that a coach of Bolt Cutter bus company from Mutare, traveling to Harare, collided with a Smart Express Coach Services coach in the opposite direction just outside Rusape.
Police spokesman Senior Chief Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi was not immediately available to comment, but ZBC quoted the accident in his figures.
