Tottenham are set to sign highly rated Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini for €15m (£13m) on a first loan with an option to buy. The deal will be a first for Spurs’ new football director, Fabio Paratici, who sees the 26-year-old as the perfect deal for today and for the future.
The initial deal is on loan for the 2021-22 season, with the option to extend the lease or sign the goalkeeper directly. There are still debates about the obligation to buy if Gollini achieves certain goals in his first season. Paratici hopes the Italians will challenge Hugo Lloris for #1 in the first season of Nuno Espírito Santo.
The goalkeeper, who spent two years at the Manchester United academy from 2012-2014 before joining Verona and then Aston Villa, has been a member of the Italian national team setup for several years and is considered one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A. .
He also has extensive experience playing in the Champions League as a key member of the Atalanta team, which has reached the qualifying stage in the last two years under Gian Piero Gasperini.
Another Atalanta player, defender Cristian Romero, is also Tottenham’s target this summer, but there is no agreement between the two clubs for the Argentine yet.
