Tried and tested: the new MacBook Air

[ad_1]

In January of 2008, the emergence of Steve Jobs in MacWorld: The founding partner of Apple, an envelope attracted the first MacBook Air & # 39; s astounding audience to see him & the world's thinnest notebook Vd as praised. Message has arrived. MacBook Air became the most popular laptop of Apple and served as a design template for the entire industry.

In the last few years, however, Apple's interest in MacBook Air has declined. For example, the wedge-shaped notebook computer had chipboard Intel's processors with the current Broadwell architecture. Apple boss Tim Tim is now a completely revised version, while the fans of Macintosh laptops were relieved.

Pixel number tripled

The biggest difference for the older generation can be felt on the screen. The new MacBook Air features a 13-inch IPS-style Retina display with a 227 dpi resolution. The 13-inch model had more than 1.3 million pixels, while the screen had more than 13 million pixels. So the texts look sharp and sharp. Photos are more colorful, after all, the number of viewable colors is increased by 48 percent. Even if you were seated just a few hours before the new model, you wouldn't want to use a lower resolution screen. However, the screen is not as bright as the Pro models.

Apple in the main processor, on the eighth generation of Intel's Core i5 chip, gained significantly more power to the device. Performance also depends on the amount of RAM (RAM). You can choose between 8 to 16 gigabytes (GB) of RAM. Most users will be bundled with 8 GB of RAM. For SSD main memory, the smallest version (128 GB) must have a capacity of at least 256 GB, which may not be enough for many users to store larger data sets. The selection is also 512 GB or 1.5 terabytes.

MacBook Air acquires components from Pro

Some of the components of the new MacBook Air already know the Pro series: For example, a touch ID sensor was installed with a fingerprint to change many of the password entries. In Germany, you'll be able to pay for online shopping as soon as Apple Pay is announced.

The Pro models also come with a T2 security chip that protects Mac from manipulation by malware during boot. The T2 chip also allows the MacBook Air to be addressed with the audio assistant Siri. It also disables the device's microphones as soon as the notebook is off. This separation is based on Apple's "hardware level only" data. Thus, a malware can no longer enable the microphone secretly.

Better keyboard

The Air's keyboard corresponds to the current Pro series. The third generation of this low-stroke butterfly keyboard is correct when writing, and is no longer as high as the keyboard of older Pro models. The first versions of the butterflies are also very sensitive to repair when there is crumb or dust in between the keys. The warranty statistics on the new MacBook Pro models now indicate that this error has been fixed. This also benefits MacBook Air.

Less interface

The Apple MacBook Air (13 inch) still had two USB-A ports, one Thunderbolt port and one slot for SD cards. The new device has only two USB-C jacks, but can be used as DisplayPort as a fast Thunderbolt port to access an external monitor or external storage. However, if you only want to insert a conventional USB stick, you need an adapter. And if you want to take pictures from a camera without a card reader inserted into the laptop, you will miss the SD card slot.

After all, Apple engineers have not received a new MacBook Air jack for a headphone jack. With the FaceTime, three microphone sounds like video conferencing or programs like Skype are now a bit better. This also benefits the language assistant Siri.

The battery lasts for a long time

An important benchmark for daily use is the battery life. Apple, with the new MacBook Air surfs the Internet for twelve hours. In practical testing, these hours have not been reached because it is between games or applications such as Adobe Photoshop. A digital nomad should end in the MacBook Air's normal working day but not without a socket.

With a dual-core processor, MacBook Air is not a computational tool that video experts suggest to make long 4K movies. The tasks of everyday life fulfilled the wedge-shaped notebooks, but were rigid. Even when more than 20 tabs are opened while browsing the web, the MacBook Air accepts the load not only with the soft humic of the fan, but also without going to the knees. If you need more power, you should switch to the quad-core MacBook Pro models in the Apple universe. And if you're looking for an ultra-compact design, you'll find an alternative to a slightly lighter 920 grams from the MacBook Air at 1.25 pounds on the 12-inch MacBook.

Housing made of recycled aluminum

The MacBook Air is, until now, the "greenest" Mac, because the state of the device is made of recycled aluminum, which is especially used in the production of iPads. This halves CO2 emissions during production according to Apple data.

Prices increased

In particular, the upgrade of the display to the Retina resolution allows Apple to raise prices for MacBook Air to 1350 Euro (8GB RAM and 128 GB SSD storage). The model with 256 GB SSD storage is only under 1600 Euro. The MacBook Air is available in gray, gold and silver. In the 2017 model of the MacBook Air, Sparfüchse may choose to work with about 1100 euro silver. Christoph Dernbach
