Hiv positive: At first, I thought I had the flu

Sebastian (name by editors) found HIV infection only a few weeks after the virus emerged. He lives normally because of such early diagnosis, he does not feel healthy life and infection. Regular tests are very important, stresses.

How do you feel?

Today, the weather is probably too cold, probably the weather. But if we talk in a bucket, I can say in a word, I say hello because in fact I have no health problems.

None of them?

None. What I have to do in terms of health is to go twice a year to check the extension of prescription drugs. They look at the blood count, liver and kidney function. Little more than a routine review.

How long has it been since you were diagnosed with an HIV virus infection?

It'il be three years. I was 26 at the time.

How did that happen? Were you going to test, have you encountered problems, or were you a regular tester?

In addition, every three months, I have regularly tested myself and a recommendation for prevention. It was only an interim period, all results in the fall were negative. Shortly after the new year, high fever, I had bad feelings, symptoms, I was very tired, I could not do anything, I am very tired.

… you suspect the hive?

No, I didn't think that. I thought it was winter, it's cold, flu, or some kind of virus. I went to the doctor who conducted the tests, and when I looked at the results, he was sent to the infectious clinic because of unusual results. They did a positive hive test there. The same day they started treating me. The diagnosis was a matter of time if I hadn't taken it two months later, when I had regular control. In any case, the infection was detected.

According to the National Institute of Public Health in Slovenia (NIJZ), about a third of them are infected with hives that are not even known to be about a third of their infections.

. At the request of a patient with a selected family physician, it is possible to undertake confidential testing under the responsibility of the insurer (at no extra cost). You can find the list available in many other parts of Slovenia

Here.

Was the diagnosis shocked?

Yeah, sure, it was a shock at first. When they started explaining to me, it wasn't me at all, I also had the disease, and I didn't quite understand what was happening at that moment. After I had previously installed myself and my body, I realized that it was not the end of the world and it was normal to live with it. Also, I always try to be positive because I think something happens in my life for some reason. That's why I'm trying to draw something positive in the sense that I give interviews, so people living with hiv are giving a little sound because we're not just a group that we talk to so much but never meet.

Who knows your diagnosis?

I told my mom, she knows a lot of relatives, friends and colleagues.

How was my mother?

Initially I was shocked, but when I explained to him that I had no more life and no death penalty, he understood and today is pretty good.

How does the notification of former partners be reported to someone after reporting a virus? Is the health care provider or the patient looking at it?

I have informed my partners, who are also recommended by doctors. Alternatively, the healthcare provider may inform partners anonymously. When they receive the information, it is said that one of their partners is hiv positive and advises them to come to the test.

I believe that it is the responsibility of each individual to inform everyone who needs to know if there is something like this. After all, this could happen to anyone.

Do you know when he's infected?

After all … I know that I know a high rate.

Do you think that's important?

Yeah. This is not information that will change anything. That's it. I'm not gonna get any better, not worse.

Don't you be angry with this person?

No no. Like I said, it could be anyone.

How many drugs should you consume per day for infection?

I took two pills, two tablets. Once a day, I usually set the alarm at lunch, which reminds me of what I could quickly do at a fast pace.

What if you forget the drugs?

If this happens once, there is no fear, but if the treatment is interrupted for several days, the virus may change and be drug resistant.

What is your prognosis, will you stay on these two drugs, or should the amount of drugs be increased?

Previously, I can say that the amount of drugs is getting smaller. Depending on the content of the medicine, I think I'll eventually come to a tablet more. A drug injection that replaces the tablets over a period of one to three months is also being developed. Science is developing in this direction.

Do you have any side effects from the medicines you take?

For now, I don't notice them. Initially, there was more fatigue, nausea, but this was on hold. At the moment I do not feel any side effects, I do not have any medical problems, I tolerate the treatment well.

People who live and are treated with leukemia do not transmit the virus to other people; because the virus reduces it to an undetectable level. When does this effect occur?

In principle, it is very fast, but largely depends on the situation. If the doctor detects that this has not happened after half a year, they begin to think whether the drug will be inadequate. In principle, within a maximum of half a year, a person comes to an unimportant level and comes when this virus does not pass at this level.

Has your sexual behavior changed after being diagnosed with hiv?

Personally, I don't tell my partners that I have no problem with that. In the MSM community, awareness is still better than the general population. I've never had a bad experience. But it's people who ask me how many years I've left. Some others are less willing to explain things to others, but to show them the research that proves it, and then change your mind.

Last year .urnal24 issued testimonies on the stigmatization and stigmatization of infected people by health workers. Do you have any bad experience?

I don't have any bad experiences with my personal doctor, we always talk, and we have no drawbacks. At the dental clinic I was initially ordered last and used additional protection. Now I don't know if this happened anymore, maybe there's more information at the dentist.

They said that they still have such a protocol for surgical removal of the tooth, to provide more protection and protection to people with wards. What should you do with all patients? Maybe there was someone who didn't know about your infection before I did.

If a person is informed and informed, there is no argument to discriminate against the patient.

Due to the low number tested in Slovenia, there are several hundred unexplored infections. There are still many fears and concerns about the test, and the expert recommends that every individual be tested at least once.

It's a good thing everyone knows what it is. It is also possible to test with a personal doctor. Relationship with a personal doctor is very important and if we learn about our sexual practices, the doctor can understand this better.

People are reluctant to talk about sex, this is still a taboo subject and therefore a big obstacle. The second major obstacle is the stigma still present, and the third is afraid of what happens when a survey is conducted. Although the possibility is not a wrong thing, a big mini sound is heard, but what if?

Developments in the MSM community are increasing, the number of tests is increasing. When someone enters the system, it takes the experience and turns the test, it is not good.

You told your partners that you are not hiding that you are infected with HIV. How do they react?

Very differently, it also depends on what the hive information is. If the virus is at an unclear level, transfer is not possible, they will not notice.

In the community, I am very open about this and do not hide the situation in certain social networks. The app is positive, but there is no option to enter information that is not detectable. You can also enter information when you last tested. Those who started talking to me already have this information.

Look at yourself, what's their situation?

Yeah, I check, I'm flying, but that's not something that will play an important role. I'm still hoping this guy as a man.

But if you have information about a person who is not going to test, is this important to you?

Yeah, she's giving me some information, but if she knew someone wasn't testing, she wasn't going to reject it. Maybe I should try talking to him, maybe I should encourage him …

When you mean death penalty, as you used to, you belong to a generation who doesn't know the way to talk about such fear. How is today a bigger stamping or greater fear?

Good question. Of course, my generation and young people no longer fear as old generations. However, this is not a topic that you will talk about every day. Most of them do not know how the progress of drugs is progressing. There is a picture in his head that the infected ones get sick, are injured, look bad, and die because of infection.

In younger generations, this is not much longer than the stigma. If anything happens to them, they are afraid to see people. However, stigma decreases from generation to generation as it is in revealing sexual orientation. The younger, the clearer, the easier, the easier.

You have made the diagnosis very logical, you speak very openly. Has it ever happened?

I have a kind of calendar, first to my family, then to cousins, then to friends, etc. I talk to reporters in the first days of December and once again I imagine I will be on the radio, when I can finally say on television, when I'm going to do business with myself, it doesn't matter what others think, and that won't be a problem for me anymore. At this level, I can tell everyone to have difficulty.

When do you think this will happen?

One year later. I think I'm going pretty fast along this road. Personally, I do not know anyone who accepts a conversation even if it provides anonymity.

The sound may change the sound, the video is blurred on the television, but I do not approve it. Last year they invited me to RTV, and they said they blacked out and changed my voice, I refused because the stigma was even bigger. When I'm at this level, I'm going to the television and I'm telling you something directly.
