Comparisons with the Nintendo Switch have started since the announcement of Steam Deack, especially after the Japanese firm released the new model of its console, the Nintendo Switch Oled, which has a better display but has the same power as the original version.
Designer Greg Coomer was asked about these comparisons in his talk with IGN, and he pointed out that the Steam Deck is designed for those who already use steam regularly. “We tried to make all decisions about Steam Deck by targeting an audience and serving customers who were already having fun interacting with the games on our platform,” he said.
As he adds in this regard, “We finally got a device that cosmetically shares some features with a Switch, but that’s just… it is a kind of artifact that stems from how we move forward in the direction of design”.
Gabe Newell, Valve co-founder and corporate director, said, “I think Nintendo has done a great job of engaging the audience they have with the content they have. And this will be different,” he explains. “If you’re a gamer and you choose a Switch and own one of these, you’ll know which one is right for you. You will know in 10 seconds”.
