Illegal or poorly maintained private sewer and rainwater pipes are being charged for large amounts of human waste that contaminate Auckland beaches.
Sewer overflow is an ongoing problem for the city and the Auckland Council DNA has been testing 20 known beaches of water quality for the last four years.
Approximately 650 samples were taken and more than half of them showed human contamination.
Formerly, the waste water infrastructure was charged for overflow in the past, but Watercare's Anin Nama said it was wrong.
Ilişkili The resources we have identified so far tend to be associated with people connecting wastewater to the float, with special tendencies that tend to flex and leak over time, “he said.
"We have nothing to show that the infrastructure of Watercare is insufficient."
Mr. Nama said that the findings from Takapuna Beach are a good example.
"We have identified a toilet block in our own pipes … in fact, to drain the waste water and into the rainwater system and then to the beach."
. So you know, the positive result from Takapuna was a direct result of the weak special infrastructure and Watercare's infrastructure of aging. “
Oils, oils or wet wipes in the sewerage system that separates the people said that blockages.
This can lead to overflow problems.
39 It's a matter of being a water problem, it's a matter of Water Service & # 39; We will not solve the problem, diy he said.
"[The] Most of the problem will be related to things that should not enter our network, what is going down on our network, and downgraded by people. "
Nick Vigar, who came from the Safeswim branch of the municipality overlooking the water test, encouraged anyone with suspected pipe leaks to get in touch.
Ir There is a fair degree of spending trying to follow these issues, “he said.
"People come and see us, we think there is a problem," he said.
Mr. Vigar said people should make sure that they check the Safeswim website showing the water quality on the beaches before swimming.
He said the municipality is working hard to identify and correct wastewater problems, but this will not be a quick solution.
