The Armed Offenders Squad is responding to a firearms incident in Invercargill.

Police were called to the incident on Brown St in Strathern, Invercargill, about 7.40pm.

There they are located in a man with an apparent gunshot wound.

He's being treated in Southland Hospital. He is seriously injured.

Cordons are in place in the area.
