The Laurentius hospital in Roermond took new measures to deal with a possible flu wave. There is a new bed protocol and the hospital bought new equipment that makes it easy to see if someone has a flu.

When the influenza season lasts 18 weeks, the hospital takes measures against the last winter. As a result, the hospital's bed capacity was challenged.

Patients presenting with symptoms of influenza should be isolated regardless of whether they have influenza or not. That's why they find a single room in the first place. If they are all full, they will be placed in a larger room, but the beds will be free.

Test result

Taking a smear from the throat or the nasal mucosa, it becomes clear whether someone has the flu. Since the hospital buys a new device, it is clear whether there is an influenza virus within one hour. It took 12 to 24 hours in advance. With faster test results, bearings can be made more quickly available.

In order to prevent the spread of the influenza virus, all employees may receive a flu vaccine free of charge. Last year was still made by thirteen percent of employees, twenty-four percent this year.
