America explores more than 200 polio-like diseases; 80 Approved

(CNN) – Eighty-five cases of polio-like disease, known as AFM, were approved in 25 countries this year in the United States and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) were approved on Monday.

In addition, there are 139 cases under investigation, including a total of 219 confirmed and suspected cases. This figure represents eight confirmed cases and 20 additional cases under investigation, the agency reported last week.

The CDC reported an increase in reports of patients under investigation in August, September and October. He did not identify 25 states with confirmed cases of the investigation and did not tell them how many states he had reported the cases under investigation.

Acute flaccid myelitis (MFA) is a rare disease affecting the central nervous system, especially gray matter in the spine. The disease can cause severe complications such as stroke or respiratory failure and requires immediate medical attention.

The authorities advised parents not to panic and to be alert to sudden onset symptoms. They also argued that the children were up to date with vaccinations and washed their hands.

The CDC said last month that since 2014, 90% of patients have children under 4 years of age, but adults can also develop MFA.

Other symptoms include sagging of the face or eyelids, difficulty in moving the eyes, swallowing problems, or speech difficulties.

Despite focusing on respiratory diseases and enteroviruses that may cause West Nile virus and other viruses of this family, research is underway to investigate the cause of MFA.

According to the CDC, there were 404 cases of MFA in the United States since August 2014. The number of cases may be higher, but the requirement is not mandatory, so all cases are not reported to state health departments. and therefore may not be included in CDC numbers.

Anan Even with an increase since 2014, MFA remains a very rare situation. Less than one million people a year annually MFA contracts in the United States, "says CDC.

AFM is peaking seasonally every two years at the end of summer and autumn, but experts do not yet have to define a single geographic factor or explain why. It is also unknown, because some patients recover and others have prolonged effects.
