Renewing your Malaysia passport is pretty fast these days. You can enter the nearest immigration office or Urban Transformation Center (UTC) and get out with a new passport in just a few hours.
However, did you know that you can renew your Malaysia passport online? You can skip the normal queue and even pay your passport with a credit card.
According to the director of the Immigration Service, Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali, the Online Passport system was introduced two years ago, but is being used inadequately. Only 9,178 renewal applications were made on the Internet.
The online process is very simple and you can choose your preferred location for the collection. Interestingly, you can choose to collect selected high commissions abroad including London, Singapore, Hong Kong, Jakarta and New York. If there is no change in details, all you need is to send a passport photo and make a payment. You can make payments via Internet banking or Visa and Mastercard.
After you have made your payment, you must print your receipt for the passport collection. You must take the passport in person and bring your passport at the same time. According to the English site, the collection time will be determined by the system and indicated on the receipt.
It should be noted that the BM version is a renewal application that was previously made on a working day.
The passport renewal fee remains unchanged for online application. For Malaysians ranging in age from 13 to 59, RM200 is charged for 5 years. In addition to those aged 12 and younger, the renewal fee for seniors aged 60 and over is 100 RMRO for 5 years.
