Google launches YouTube Kids for Arab countries

YouTube announced on Thursday the launch of YouTube Kids in Arabic, which will span 15 countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The announcement came during a briefing roundtable presented by Google’s Regional Marketing Director Tarek Abdalla in the MENA region.

The roundtable provided more information on all the details and features that can be found on YouTube Kids, as well as various controls to help parents customize their family’s viewing experience.

The app is a family-friendly free service for kids that includes a range of parental controls and some of the region’s favorite content.

YouTube Kids will make it easy for families to find videos suitable for their children to enjoy, while providing parents with easy-to-use tools to customize their family’s experience.

Commenting on the launch of YouTube Kids on MENA, Abdalla said, “YouTube Kids offers a range of parental controls to tailor the experience to their needs while helping every family nurture their children’s curiosity and interests.” Said.

Explaining that the application has developed over time, Abdalla added that Google is waiting for a suitable time to introduce a product with good features and service.

Abdalla told Daily News Egypt that the email feature that notifies parents of their child’s activities in the app is not available. However, parents can set the time for kids to use the app and choose the content they can use during that time.

He also said that the app does not provide educational content to parents, as there are other apps that help parents help their kids learn from home on the internet.

Abdalla said the platform will allow families to manage their children’s profiles and specify websites, videos or anything they want to watch, while allowing families access to a Google Security page that allows family access and safety.

The app offers a range of easy-to-use parental controls so that every family can have the right experience for them. Some of the useful features offer personalized profiles that allow parents to create separate profiles for their children. This means that children of different ages and interests will have a separate set of viewing preferences and recommendations.

Also, the ‘Can approve content via parents’ mode features specially selected content that allows parents to select individual videos and channels to make available to their children. Speaking of the YouTube Kids idea, he said that in the Arab world, a total of 30% under the age of 14 have access to the app, and nine out of ten of these kids have a tablet or smartphone.

Abdalla said that families can create separate identities for each child in the same account, with identities that do not require any personal information or even photographs.

These will be password protected so no one can access the file and each file can be adjusted for the age of the child. YouTube Kids also offers certain content suitable for that child of all ages.

Abdalla also said that those with YouTube Premium can use an ad-free YouTube Kids, but there are no plans to create any paid services on YouTube Kids.
