Bill and Melinda Gates have announced that they will end their marriage.
Microsoft’s co-founder and his wife, who founded the world’s largest charity, said they will continue to work together at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
In the same tweets, they said that they had decided to end their 27-year-old marriage. “We raised three incredible children and established a foundation that works all over the world to ensure that all people live healthy and productive lives,” they said in a statement.
“As we begin to navigate this new life, we want space and privacy for our family.”
Last year, Mr. Gates, formerly the wealthiest person in the world, said he stepped down from Microsoft’s board of directors to focus on philanthropy.
Mr. Gates was the general manager of Microsoft until 2000 and since then he has gradually reduced his involvement in the company he founded with Paul Allen in 1975.
He left his daily role at Microsoft in 2008 and served as chairman of the board until 2014. – AP
