BERN – Manchester United swallowed the bitter pill in the 2021-2022 Champions League. The Red Devils narrowly lost 1-2 to the Young Boys in their Group F opening game on Wednesday (15/9/2021) at WIB.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s strategy to eliminate Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes in the 1-1 draw was under the spotlight. In fact, Man United both need to pose a threat to the opponent’s goal.
However, in the 72nd minute, Solskjaer pushed them both away and took Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard as backups. The coach argued that physical condition was one of the reasons.
“The match lasted 70 minutes. Looking at the condition of the two, I think it’s the right time to take them out,” Solskjaer said, quoted from UEFA’s official website on Wednesday, 15/9/2021.

“As you know, they also gave their best performance (in the Premier League) last weekend,” he continued.
Also, Man United need a player with a more defensive character like Nemanja Matic. Because Aaron Wan-Bissaka was sent off by the referee in the 35th minute, they had to play with 10 players.
