Together with the mobile: BMW and Daimler are allowed to combine the car sharing services Drivenow and Car2go. Competitive oversight of the European Commission approved the merger.
The two carmakers announced the merger of Drivenow and Car2Go earlier this year. They want to set up six joint ventures to combine mobility services. In addition to the Drivenow and Car2go car rental services, there are driving services for electric cars, parking services and charging offers. One of the objectives is to reduce costs.
The EU competition authority agreed. However, he has reservations about car sharing in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Cologne, Munich and Vienna. He explained that there are only limited alternatives to car sharing in these six cities. Therefore, BMW and Daimler have forced to open some services for other providers.
For example, the two companies have to provide an interface so that other mobility providers can integrate their vehicle sharing offerings into Drivenow and Car2go's own applications. Daimler should also provide access to other car sharing services to the Moovel mobility app.
