OLF-ODP-talks14 November 2018 – According to the FBO report, two rival political organizations from the Oromia region of Ethiopia have decided to work together. At a joint press conference, the Oromo Democratic Party (ODP) and the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) announced they had decided to work together.

According to the report, ODP Deputy Chairman Lemma Megersa and OLF President Dawud Ibsa reached an agreement.

Esi We will work together for the country's peace, development and economic growth, için said Lemma Megersa, chief executive of the Oromia regional state.

He also urged the public to support the government's efforts to ensure the supremacy of the laws and to bring the individuals who have harmed the country to justice.

He called on queers, political parties, and activists to protect the gains from the ongoing reforms.

He said his party had agreed to work in partnership with both the federal government and the Oromia regional state.

The OLF and his army will work jointly with the government in a peaceful manner, he said.

Recently, the government had warned against disarming the OLF or disarming the government. This was followed by events in some parts of the country, such as the Benishangul-Gumuz, where the OLF and its supporters were accused of lethal attacks that resulted in the displacement of thousands of people.

In an interview with the Walta Information Center in October of this year, OLF President Dawud Ibsa seemed to deny that the OLF agreed on disarmament.

This was in contrast to the initial reports that the OLF had decided to lay down arms and compete peacefully with other political parties as part of the peace plan.

It is not yet known whether the OLF will be disarmed or whether the central state of Ethiopia will coexist with the armed OLF.

There are unconfirmed reports that the OLF has spoken with the TPLF (Tigrayan People's Liberation Front). If such movements are indeed true, the OLF may indicate that it intends to compete against the ODP in the political landscape more aggressively than previously thought. It can also be the reason why the ODP treats the OLF with child gloves despite various provocations.
