RICHMOND, Va (WRIC) – In Richmond, the 41st Richmond Marathon, half marathon, or 8K was joined by thousands of runners.
For some, there is a chance to reconnect with friends, for others … race is an opportunity to raise money for some reason.
They tied up thousands of running shoes early in the morning and early on Saturday morning and hit the sidewalk.
"It was great," said half-marathon finisher Kyle Yunaska. "You know I came here and met a bunch of college friends. We were on the track and cross-country team in East Carolina."
For some runners, Richmond's half-marathon started as a supreme goal.
"And it's good to come here only 12, 13 years later," he said. "I've never run. I didn't do anything to the half marathon. So I wasn't even sure I could finish and I just felt great. Good people, good times."
Training months up to 13.1 miles.
"My legs are getting tight as the last few miles," said Yunaska. "When I finally came down the hill, I saw the finish line.
Full marathon running is personal for others.
Mike Groom, founder of Team Chris, said, un In 2003, our son, Chris Groom, lost his car in Raleigh, North Carolina. Takım "And the following year, my wife decided she wanted to run a marathon in her honor."
Over the past 13 years, Team Chris has been represented in Richmond.
. We built a memorial fund for his name, room Groom said. "We collect money every year to look at disadvantaged and needy children."
Pass the finish line for a special purpose.
"This is humility," he said: "Groom." It's emotional. He ends emotionally, but for Chris, it's emotional. "
Boaz Kipyego from Kenya won the Anthem Richmond marathon of 2018.
