Currently more than 10,000 people in France, almost exclusively homosexual men are following the preventive treatment against the AIDS virus, PrEP. This treatment has been 100% refunded and reimbursed by social security since 2016.

According to the ANSM drug establishment, between January 2016 and June 2018, 10,405 people started preventive treatment against HIV. In addition, 500 new people per month experienced a steady growth since 2016.

"It is very positive that more people, especially men who have sex with men, prefer this prevention treatment," he said.

The PrEP principle is simple, it is sufficient that seronegativans take Truvada tablets to form a barrier against the virus. This drug, which combines two antiretrovirals, was previously only seropositive.

France is the second country after the US allowed this preventive treatment against AIDS; and social security is the first country to undertake these costs. PrEp mainly targets people at risk: homosexual men or people engaged in prostitution.

The flaws of this treatment accuse her of supporting certain risky behaviors and of discouraging use of condoms.
