Can Renault and Nissan survive independently?

New scenario

Since the past two decades, the president of this alliance has been helping companies save $ 6 billion last year.

Carlos Ghosn is no longer the president of the Renault Nissan Alliance. Last Thursday, the Japanese manufacturer dismissed him as president of the company. A few days ago, Renault didn't dismiss him, but was relieved of his position and left the company in the hands of Thierry Bolloré, who now has 2 companies and is now the CEO.

On the other hand, Hiroto Saikawa, who was appointed as Nissan CEO a year ago, is managing the company. Nissan is a Japanese; Renault is a Frenchman. What the Japanese government wants merger; nor did the French take more power in the emblem of the diamond than the Nissan.

After completing the existing strategic plan, Ghosn planned to abandon the group and tried to unite the Alliance in 2022. Emmanuel Macron and Shinzo clashed with Abe's rejection; Although the two governments have expressed their intention to cooperate as the president of the Renault Nissan Alliance did before exposing the tax fraud, they announced the Expansion site in Mexico.

Nissan, who researched Carlos Ghosn for months without informing the Renault executives, had or never had a coup. The fact is that the Japanese spent more than five years claiming that they had gained more weight in the Alliance's decisions.

Renault Nissan's 43.4%. He has the right to vote and veto upon the highest shareholder and the advice of the Japanese. The second shareholder is Japan's public pension fund with 5.28%.

Nissan Renault has 15% but no voting rights. And not the biggest shareholder. The French state holds 15.01% of the capital.

Renault betrayed Renault based on the Florance Act and left Nissan without voting for those times. According to this regulation, if a shareholder remains in the company for two years, they can be replicated in the board of directors without the need to increase their voting rights. However, in May 2015, the French government increased its share of 19.75% to prevent Nissan from gaining place in Renault's capital.

To ease Nissan in November 2017, Ghosn managed to sell its French stake to Nissan to 4.75%. However, the French Executive Committee was one-tenth of the Japanese group with 15.01%.

This relationship dates back to 1999. Nissan had no choice but to accept Renault's terms because they were about to fail. However, in recent years and with a serious financial crisis in excess of Europe, the Nissan was the balance of the French. Last year, Renault Group won $ 5.25 billion and as a result, its share in Nissan was $ 2,799 million. In 2016, Renault earned US $ 3,543 million in Nissan's US $ 1,638 million.

In terms of sales, Nissan leads. In addition, the Japanese acquired the third leg of the Alliance in October 2016 as Mitsubishi. This Monday, he will be dismissed as president by Mitsubishi Ghosn.

In 2017, they sold 8.84 million vehicles between two Japanese brands; Renault Group, 3.76 million.

Apparently prisoner

The basis of the Alliance is synergies. If it saves $ 5,000 million in 2016 and almost 6,000 people last year, the plan estimates that in 2022 the cost of 10,000 million will drop. Both companies (and Mitsubishi) are centralizing their acquisitions for supplier, engineering, supply chain and manufacturing.

Daimler, who has a strategic agreement with the Renault Nissan Alliance since 2014 in this latest area, is another partner. Just some examples. The Mercedes Citan van was manufactured at the French Maubeauge plant of Renault, which will produce the Nissan NV250. Daimler manufactures the Infiniti (the premium brand of Nissan) QX30 in Mexico. Or the Valladolid Motors plant manufactures small diesel engines that combine, for example, the Mercedes A class.

Renault Nissan Mitsubishi has signed an agreement with Google. This will replace Microsoft with 2021 as a cloud services and software provider.

Renault and Nissan have a venture capital fund of 1,000 million to capture new business opportunities for new mobility. Together with Nissan, Leaf and Renault, it is the world leader in the sale of electric vehicles. The unity of both companies is so profitable that they don't seem too complicated to come to an agreement.
