The first death from influenza has been approved in Alberta



CALGARY, EU – Alberta Health Services approved the first death of influenza in the 2018-2019 flu season.

According to the weekly influenza report, a person died of flu in the Calgary area. Calgary continues to pioneer hospitalization for the flu, and since the beginning of the season 200 people have been hospitalized.

The South Region, which includes Medicine Hat and Lethbridge, has the least number of laboratory approved influenza cases this season. According to the latest report, 57 cases were found.

South Region, this season so far only three hospitals were seen. So far, 48 people have been sent to the hospital in Edmonton.

So far, 944,611 doses of influenza vaccine were administered this season. Of these numbers, 73,484 were applied in the Southern Region.
