Source: Google Hangouts closes at 2020

According to the source familiar with the product's internal roadmap, Google Hangouts for consumers has been shutting down in 2020 for some time. It's no surprise that Google has essentially stopped cultivating the app more than a year ago. But know that, while entering 2019, this is really the last year to continue using the dear (?) Old chat application.

Last spring, the Hangouts Hangouts brand has been announced with the Hangouts Chat and Hangouts Meet pivot for corporate use cases. Therefore, the article about ending the Hangouts consumer application has been on the wall for some time. Google, meanwhile, has passed consumer messaging efforts to RCS ı Chat laşma and Android Messages, following Allo's misnomer.

Many have already stopped using it, given the fact that Google abandoned the application in relation to its development and its estimated death. However, Hangouts is still the leading chat option in Gmail on the web, and the app remains in the Google Play Store to this day. Many recent reviews have indicated that the application indicates errors and performance issues related to age and symptoms.

As mentioned earlier, Hangouts as a brand will continue with G Suite's Hangouts Chat and Hangouts Meet, a team communication app that was previously comparable to Slack, and the second with a video meeting platform. In the meantime, an integrated Google Voice call before the independent and later Hangouts moved back into the redesigned app earlier this year.

Interestingly, it was one of the few applications that received early support for Android Auto's new MMS and RCS functions, in addition to Hangouts, Android Messages and WhatsApp, despite the soon-to-be-released feature.

12/1 Update: Scott Johnston of Google denied any decision regarding the timeline of the closure of the old Hangouts and refused. In a confusing way, however, consumers have to say that Hangouts users will be outs upgraded, ğ to Hangouts Chat and Hangouts Meet, both of which are corporate-oriented products that meet different needs.

Scott also explicitly confirms that for the first time, the subject of this report, Hangouts Classic, will eventually close.

In the meantime, a second source confirmed my first report and said that decisions were taken to remove the old Hangout.

Take 9to5Google's

It's been a long time since the Hangout has been closed, so if there's one thing, it's still surprising that retirement will last more than a year. I'm trying to guess that the real use numbers are still important, given that Allo's real messaging alternative, Google's initiative, has been miserably miserable. In the meantime, Google's still-leading "Chat" RCS initiative is also not closed.
