Tricia Peden and Keira VanderVliet, speakers of Turning Point, a loss reduction agency of red deer, gave an informative and stunning presentation of drugs focusing on the fentanyl and opioid crisis.

The presentation was made at the Rimbey United Church after a poverty meeting by the Rimbey Department of Sun, Amnesty International. November 18 and 25 people attended.

VanderVliet, who resorted to extensive drug use before making a choice to change his life and help others, said that drug use has affected families and communities.

”Absolutely, in your backyard.“

Servers are becoming a popular drug for palliative care in the 90s, Fentanyl is now inexpensive, ready and a hundred times stronger than morphine or heroin, he said.

For one user, only one fentanyl received one and stated that two grains could be sufficient to cause overdoses.

Overdose symptoms include slow, irregular breathing, loose body, pale and moist skin and blue nail, lip and tongue. Choking or squeaking, vomiting and unresponsiveness to painful stimuli are other symptoms.

Servers should tell everyone who comes to someone who may be suffering from an overdose to call 911, keep calm, deliver a rescue breath, and manage Naloxone if there is one.

Do not throw the person in a cold shower, they warned.

Naloxone kits can quickly reverse the effects of overdose from opioids such as free and fentanyl.

People use substances for many reasons. These may include the elimination of family and mental health problems as a means of self-medication and / or distress.

To help with drug-related issues, boxes for lightweight used gloves, heavy socks, scarves and coats are left in the Rimbey Library and Neighborhood, which are among the invisible homeless people, in accordance with the philosophy of Turning Points. These items will be delivered to the Turning Point and will be distributed to workers in the street by the workers at the damage reduction agency.
