The Australian Open finalist, Marin Cilic, transformed John Isner into a thirteenth war and has kept his chance to join the semi-finals at the ATP final in London. Croatian tennis player won 6: 7 (2), 6: 3, 6: 4 after a 2.14 hour game.
The development of the match between Cilic and Isner guarantees Novak Djokovic's position in the next phase. 1. The World World won the first two matches against Isner and Alexander Zverev convincingly, not to lose one set and to stay on the field for a total of 150 minutes.
The duel between Chilich and Isner is the third in the ATP finals this year. In his loss, he was eliminated from the semi-finals when he backed down against Croatia's Zverev. However, he was able to make a rebound and had only a second victory in the fourth final masters.
Isner worked well in the first set. The 208-inch American player took the ninth century's entry, the first service with 70%, and lost only 9 of his 40 games in six games. In the opening game he gave a score to break the opponent and managed to save him.
Cilic's first strike was also working well. There was only one critical game in which Croatian was delayed at 15:40. He saved two break points and then reflected one-third before slipping. So they reached a milestone where Isner gained early progress and earned a convincing 7: 2.
During the game, however, Cilich began to make more decisions against Isner's service. Croatia played a strong second set in which the United States did not give any rupture points, and at the same time, it reached five possible targets on competitors' shipments. The US Open 2014 champion rose to 5: 3, then closed the set with zero service play.
The third one started three times in a row because the first two sections were just a break. Cilic won the first 3-1 win win.
He didn't give Isner the chance to take a second break at the end of the match and reset the game to another game with 5: 4.
Cilic scored an eighth goal in his 11th game against Isner. In the first round of the American group stage, he defeated Djokovic to make a second loss in London. World No. 10 still holds its chances for the semifinals.
On Friday, Isner will play against Djokovic against Zverev and Chilich. The American has a chance to progress if he defeats German in just two sets.
