The police were summoned to a major incident detained at Don Dale Youth Detention Center in Darwin.
At least 15 police cars, including tactical intervention vehicles, intervened on Tuesday night.
A spokesperson for the District Families division said that the "discomfort" in the center began at 6.45.

Don Dale continued to be the subject of negative publicity this year. Four men were charged with firing in the center in July, and prison guards were injured in May.
