How to configure the Pixel 4's 90Hz Smooth Display: Enable, Disable & Force On

How to force Smooth Display on 24/7

As great as the Pixel 4's 90Hz display is, it does come with an odd catch. In an effort to conserve power, Google disables 75% and automatically kicks things back to 60Hz. While it's a good battery-saving move, it's also 90Hz goodness all day long.

The first thing's first, we need to enable developer options on the Pixel 4. This 90Hz setting is required.

  1. Open the Settings on your phone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on About phone.
  3. Tap Build number (at the very bottom of the page) over and over.

  4. Enter your phone's PIN / password.
  5. You'll see a pop-up saying "You are now a developer!"

With developer options now enabled, it's time to head into the developer options.

  1. Open the Settings on your phone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on System.
  3. Tap Advanced to see more options.

  4. Tap Developer options.
  5. Scroll down the page.
  6. Tap on Force 90 Hz refresh rate.
  7. Tap the toggle.
